Dogs Love Kong Dog Toys!

Kong dog toys are non-toxic, dishwasher safe and about the best fun your dog can have. The soft rubber toy has a hollow center that you can fill with food or a treat, giving your puppy an outlet for his natural desire to chew, gnaw and lick. There are Kong dog toys in just about every size and in several grades of firmness. You can buy a little Kong for your small dog or a monster size Kong for your St. Bernard. Kong puppy toys and binkies are more giving, making them better for their growing teeth. Regular Kong dog toys are ideal for most dogs, while Kong dog toys for aggressive chewers are the perfect playthings for dogs that can tear a slipper apart in nothing flat.

Why Dogs Love Kong Dog Toys

Dogs are like your typical teenager – if they get bored, they develop behavior problems. Nature never intended for your dog to have his dinner served to him on a silver platter, or even in a plastic dog bowl. His instincts tell him to hunt and forage and worry at things till they give up the meaty goodness that he loves. Unless you provide him with something that allows him to exercise his instincts, chances are that he’ll find something else on which to exercise – and the more you like it, the more likely it is to become his chew toy.

Kong dog toys, like most food puzzle toys, are containers made of hard rubber or plastic. You can open the toy up and fill it with a treat or with his favorite food, then close it back up and let your puppy go to town on it. Your puppy will have to figure out how to get at the food inside by rolling it, nibbling it, licking it or pawing it. His Kong will keep your puppy amused and entertained for hours.

Having Fun with Kong Dog Toys

You can use your dog’s Kong toy balls as an occasional treat, or you can feed him his meals in a red or black Kong by mixing dry dog food with some canned dog food, banana, cottage cheese, yogurt, peanut butter or canned pumpkin. You can also use your Kong to supplement your dog’s diet with neat snacks and other surprises. Here are some ideas to get you started on using Kong dog toys with your puppy.

First, get your dog used to the food puzzle toy before switching over to it entirely. You’ll need to train him in how to get food to fall out of the toy. When you first start using the Kong, fill it with little treats or pieces of doggie kibble that will easily fall out through the holes in the end of the toy. That will help him get the idea of what he’s supposed to do.

Once your pup has the idea, start making it harder for him to get at the treats in the toy. Fill it with bigger pieces of food, chunks of fruits and vegetables and bigger dog biscuits that he’ll have to really work to get at.

If you want to keep your dog busy while you’re out at work or school, try filling one or two Kong dog toys with dog food or treats and hiding them around the house for him to find while you’re gone. He’ll have fun “hunting” and “foraging” while you’re gone, and won’t even have time to go to town on your favorite slippers.

Kong dog toys are more than just a fun game to play with your puppy. They’ll help you keep your dog amused and entertained while you’re not home so that his instincts don’t get him into trouble.

You can trim hair from around your pet’s eyes to prevent infection, make sure the corners of their eyes are mucous free, and try to keep your pets away form activities or surroundings where they may get eye trauma. When doing any cleaning or cutting around your dogs eyes, you want to use the utmost care so as to avoid poking your dog in the eye!

As your dog ages there is some additional dog care needs that you should be aware of. Your dog should still exercise but at a lower intensity and for shorter periods of time. Older dogs should use a foam bed to protect their joints when sleeping. You should also take advantage of senior dog food as it will contain important vitamins and nutrients that older dogs may need more of. As dogs age you need to keep a closer eye out for changes in behavior as these can be signs of problems. You should take your dog to the vet as soon as you notice any changes.

Proper dog care also constitutes regular veterinary visits. This way you can be assured that you are providing your pet with everything he needs to be happy, healthy and long lived.
