i always feel sad when i see puppies in pet stores they get kept in tinny enclosures rather than being able to run outside
dont buy from pet shops! my mom bought one from a pet shop and it wont go up or down stairs the only stairs it will go down are the ones leading to the yard becuase it has to go

@SmilinSweetpea Ultimately, you’re looking for a friend so people should not eliminate pet stores because of the illegal puppy mills in this country but at the same time, they should not eliminate mutts because in the end, a dog is a dog. They all want to get out of cages and have a companion.
@SmilinSweetpea I’m not denying that mutts are bad. It’s awesome that shelters exist. I’m just saying that not all pet stores are bad. I’m just warning people to read about the pet store that they are visiting and find out where they get their animals before buying them (google online, talk to the breeders, etc). Also, I’m sure that shelters give out free vet visits and electronic chips in the pets but where I live, they cost only $50 for everything. Thus I think vet care, ele chip are extra.
@birmingham1010 Most shelters and rescues microchip as well and the animals come spayed/neutered. Some (not all) shelters give a coupon for the first vet visit. Shelters very often have pure bred dogs and breed specific rescues not only have a specific breed you are looking for, they also know the personalities and little quirks of the animals so they can help match you with a dog that meshs with your personality, family, and lifestyle. Mutts are pretty awesome, too BTW.
@kado726 The pet store in a nearby mall charges $1500 minimum for a boy and $1600 to $1700 minimum for a girl but it comes with 1 year’s worth of free vet care and they all already had shots and free electronic chip in them (in case they get lost). The humane society has all animals but they’re mixed breed. Pet stores tend to carry purebreds. I asked the pet store where they got the dogs and they said they’re from local breeders. But it is true that some places get dogs from puppy mills.

@CazLovesTokioHotel That’s not quite true. You don’t tend to see them in pet stores but Harrods sell them. I’d be very surprised if Harrods got their dogs an cats from mills or back yard breeders though.

ive adopt one from a shelter and it cost $100 i was amazed now i have 2 there so friendly they never bite but they do lick your fingers there shih tzus / poodle mix /
there in the shelter i can only have them in one more week cant wait to get them till home i setted everthing but my lil baby sis is scard so we need a dog leash

All pet stores use either puppy mills or BYBs. No respectful breeder would associate with a pet store.
