Obviously you should never buy a dog from a store- but is it still supporting puppy mills if you buy other products from pet stores that have puppies? The other parts of the business are OK, so is it OK only to boycott the bad part of the business?
Where do you get your pet products from?
What about how they treat fish- do you just care about the fuzzy creatures? Fish entusiasts do not like Petco or Petsmart and despise Walmart.

I personally do not buy from them if they sell puppies or even small animals. I buy offline (ebay, dog.com ect) and at feed stores.
I don’t give my money to companies like that. I usually go to Petco or PetSmart because they are firm believers in adoption (and hold adoptions at their locations). If not, I’ll go to an independent pet boutique and give my money to someone who really loves animals.
hmmmmmmmmmmm……good question!!
I think it is ok to buy from other parts of the store because it isn’t Directly giving money to the puppy mills
I believe it’s ok i meen petsmart and petco and many other stores usually have animals from shelters up for adoption anyway so I think its alright.
eBay
it is ok to buy from them but also you should think about shopping at pet co or Pet smart they are very good stores and keep things very sterile so I say shop there if you have too but that is where I shop and I am a Vet myself.
Puppy mills are horrid, as you may know.
When you support the company selling puppies in any way, you are supporting puppy mills.
I buy pet products at WalMart and an Alternative Pet health shop and some online. I also buy products at the local Humane Society – shelter.
I do not purchase any items from stores that sell puppies because that purchase is still supporting the store.
I purchase my pet supplies from SmartPak Canine, SmartPak Equine and PetCo.
If you are unsure about this then why not research on the net where to get your pet stuff from? I don’t bother with stores anymore, I can get everything I need brought to me and I KNOW I am buying ethically. Good luck xx
Walmart but i thnk its ok 2 buy products like tht from pet stores
why not…just because a store sell something i don”t believe in doesn’t mean their other products are no good. If you think that is against your principle i would say boycott the store.
I don’t buy from those places either. I purchase from my vet, ebay, some catalogs, etc.
Indirectly, yes, it is. You’re supporting a store that gets their animals from mills. I refuse to purchase anything from any store that sells any kind of animals. Because whether it’s dogs, cats, or small animals… they are all coming from either mills or backyard breeders. And that is not something I want to support.
I personally purchase either online or through pet supply stores that do not carry animals.
Darksong~
Edit: And no, I won’t purchase from Petco or Petsmart either. Yes, they support adoption and provide adoptable animals, but they also support and provide animals from mills and backyard breeders.
Edit x2: Fish are included in this, yes. They too are living creatures.
I guess it’s ok because your not supporting the puppy demand at these stores. I mean if nobody buys them then there is no need for the chains to keep buying them from the puppy mills.
No, I would never do anything to support a business that uses a puppy mill. I buy at PetSmart. My PetSmart allows our area shelter to host a dog adopt-a-thon 3 Saturdays per month. At the same time, a feline charity has cats and kittens there, too. I can get anything I need for my dogs at Petsmart
That is up to you. I don’t have that problem, since I don’t have any pet stores in my area that actually sell puppies. I generally buy things at petsmart since that’s the only place in my area that sells my brand of dog food. Alot of grooming items, collars, things like that I buy online from petedge
i got my dog from a private breeder who knows the history of the dogs that they breed. a lot of stores cant offer that to you which is extremely important. wouldnt you want to know if your dog was inbred? or had a history of heart problems?
I got two puppies for pet stores
Both were almost 6 months and price were cute 60 t0 70%
Both would of been put in shelters, some kills dogs
not know, they make to much money for christmas
I would look at petfiner.com
They have dogs in shelters from puppies to old dogs
The have full breeds and mutts
I would check that site out before I buy a young dog from a pet store
