well for starters you need to decide what type of fish to get, like saltwater or freshwater (tropical). Freshwater fish are easier to keep.
theres no real best fish to own but if you were looking for and easy fish to keep you should get a goldfish or bettas but i Personal find the a bit boring.
Also you need to decide how big the tank your getting is.
The main things you will need are:
fishtank
heater (depending on the fish)
filter
gravel or sand
decrolinator (if you dont have a rain water tank)
ph test kit
fish food
ill stay posted for any more questions
I would say a beta fish. They don’t interact well with other fish. They start a fight. It would like being on its own. They like spacey tanks and they live as long as you take great care of them. It doesn’t cost more than 60 bucks a year. And they need to be fed a couple times a day so food and a interactive tank to be in are necessary.
Your first step into the aquatic hobby will be extremely rewarding, but the first job is to answer a few questions yourself. Those answers can then inform others to guide you in the right direction.
What kind of fish are you thinking of? A diminuitive Betta will happily lead a lone existance in a relatively small aquarium (5-15 gallons). Equally happy alone will be a glourious looking Arrowana if you are able to provide a preverbial indoor ‘pond’ of an aquarium (hundreds of gallons)!
What budget do you have to offer? Certain fish require little more than food and regular water changes throughout the year whereas others require very stringent (and expensive!) care, a plethora of live foods, chemical treatments to keep the water within certain parameters etc etc etc.
How long do you wish to commit yourself to looking after your fish? Some species live for a year or two, others 25 years +.
What space/expense/time constraints do you have? Some fish require very basic, small living conditions, others need specific, highly well maintained environments that would need daily attention.
Answer these questions and then someone could recommend you a fish. Then they can suggest the ‘supplies’ you may need.
Apologies if I appear to be being perdantic, but fishkeeping has come along way since the days of winning a fish in a bag at the fair!
siamese fighting fish.
they fight with others so they pretty mush have to be alone.
the food costs about 6 australian dollars and it is tiny little balls and you only feed them a bout 5 a day so it lasts years.
they are easy to look after cause they dont need a heater or filter.
you need at least a 10 litre tank, food, maybe thermometre and a fishy
