I’m not talking about buying a dog from the store, just buying things like food, toys, medication, etc. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, how would you rate your store and why?
I never really get a chance to go to pet stores, so I’d like to know who’s good and who isn’t.

i would rate my petco and petsmart an 8 each. they have enerything you would ever need but you can never find anyone to help you.
my least favorite is pet central, i’ll give them a 2. you can never find anything because its so messy, the people are no help, and they overbreed their animals.
Favorite: Either Petsmart (7) because they have a lot of cheap toys which is what i need my dogs destroy toys constantly or WoofWeePups (local pet store) (9 1/2) they sell great brand foods (canidae, innova etc..).
Least: Pet palace (2).. too expensive and they don’t have much there.
My favorite place is Petsmart or my local feed store.
It’s clean and I know everyone, they’re quite friendly & have a ton of products.
My least favorite is a local pet store of mine, called Art’s Animals. I’ve been in a few times, they sell puppies whom they keep in these small cubes, they don’t have a lot of products, the small animals they keep are overcrowded, and there are usually dead fish all over the floor. It’s a depressing, awful store.
EDIT: lori.. i don’t really know what you mean, but PetSmart doesn’t sell puppies.. ? they allow adoption agencies to come in on weekends and people adopt from there..
Best -10 Petsmart they have everything we have a really nice store here.
Least Favorite- 2 Petland Prices are too high.
A new Petsmart was built where I live recently, and it has been very helpful. The trainers there are always happy to chat and answer whatever questions you have. The store has been kept very clean, and the birds, hamsters, and cats that are up for adoption or sale there are in great condition. It also has everything I need for my pets. I would rate my local Petsmart at a 10.
My favorite is Petsmart.
I buy a lot from Jefferpets online. I go to PetSmart a lot. I get a lot of things from the vet clinic too.
The Petco by my house sucks!! worst customer service ever! so I am a PetSmart girl!! my pup knows everyone in there!
I like my two local stores, Bridger Feed and Barkenhowell’s. They don’t sell any animals at all, carry good quality merchandise rather than the mass-produced junk that most major pet supply stores sell, and I have good relationships with the owners and employees at each, they know me and my dogs and are great to deal with, very helpful, and will special order me anything I want. I rate them both a 9.
Very occasionally I shop at Petsmart for the few things that I can’t get at a local store or that are very expensive from the local stores. They do sell small animals and many products that really are not good for pets (such as selling rabbit cages that are entiirely too small for even the smallest of rabbits, dog foods loaded with allergens, preservatives, and some dog foods without any actual meat at all (like Beneful)), I try not to support them if I can reasonably avoid it. I rate them a 4.
oh my goodness! i live in a small town and i just love going to the pet stores here. i love shopping for my dog more than for me now. lol. they have the cutest out fits for my pup! too cute
My favorite “supply” stores are Calico Creek(9){in Central PA}, and Country Max(8){Near Rochester}. They are both supply stores, for more than just pets but have an EXTENSIVE pets section that sells, everything at great prices, and GREAT quality food at significantly lower prices then most other stores. I swear by both of them. Plus I can take my pup with me into both of them as well, and show off how well behaved she is!
As for Medication, my fiances mother gets a 10 for that! lol She works in a Veterinary clinic so gets us our pup all of her Flea and tick, and Wormer for free(and its the good stuff), and all of our cats got their shots for free. Lol, but thats because they were all born on the farm!
On the low end would be the corporate stores,that Jack up the prices and only carry popular items. Its hard to find specific needs in supplies for my dog. (It took me a month to find a leash with a clip for hiking with the pup)
One thing I will say is that I do not support PetSmart because I’ve been to more than one where the puppies looked obviousily like mill puppies. My dachsunds were round and cuddly when they were pups and the PetSmart dachsunds look sick – toothpicks with marshmallows for heads. I never go there for anything anymore, not even a two dollar toy.
