Okay, let me make this clear, it is 99% sure that I will NOT get a sugar glider or a chinchilla. I just have questions about them.
I live in GA, I heard that sugar gliders were recently made legal, and chins are legal. Do they make good pets? How hard are they to keep? Do they need special care? Will my exotic vet treat them? How much do they cost, and is there a rescue center I can get them from for less? Lastly, were can I get cages and supplies?

ok so i recently visisted my local animal humaine society. and while i was there i decided that i want to have a career that involves animals. well on futher thought ive decided that i want to open up my own animal shelter. but i have many questions. should i make it nonprofit or have fees, adoptions, pet supplies to sell, and etc. also what steps do i need to do in order to make it sucessful? i really just want it to be an all dog shelter. and maybe critters. but no cats or horses or exotic animals. haha. in order to make my dreams come true will i absolutely have to go to school for like a vet assistant degree or can i just wing it and hire ppl who know how to really take care of the animals. see im 21 and have been in school for elementary education and graphic design already. and i just finished up this semester halfway thru my graphic design program. so like i dont want to prolong school any longer than it has to be. any advice on the education part and the what my shelter should be part would be great! and anything else anyone can think of that isnt mean or deragatory. :)

With everyone being very conscientious about their finances, you’re probably looking for ways to save on your everyday necessities.  One of the biggest costs in household budgeting is in pet supplies.  Whether you’re shopping for a growing puppy, a spoiled cat, a roomful of birds or even an exotic iguana, who can deny that pet supplies are expensive?  The solution is not to reduce the amount of food or health supplies that a pet needs; rather, you can save money by buying discount pet supplies online.  Consider these four tips.

1. Order Quality Discount Pet Supplies

Resist the urge to buy the cheap stuff.  It will harm your pet’s health, and in the long run, cost you more money due to pet doctor visits.  Cheap products are made from cheap ingredients that can become toxic over time, making your pet feel sick and depressed.  Change the way you buy, not the quality of food you buy.

2. Order Discount Pet Supplies From Other Sources

Our first reaction when buying pet supplies is to take the advice of the veterinarian or his/her assistant.  The doctor and his or her assistants will usually try and sell you pet supplies at an inflated cost.  They are going to be honest about most things, so don’t turn against the pet veterinarian’s office entirely!  They are just doing their job in trying to push over-priced food and pet supplies, as that is part of their office income as well.  What you should remember however, is that you can buy practically anything from the vet’s office online at a lower cost.  It’s the same great quality product, but at a much more affordable cost.  Plus, you don’t have to stop by the veterinarian’s office every time you need to purchase pet food or flea control.

3. Invest in Preventive Measures

Many families make the same mistake when it comes to their pets.  They pet and cuddle the furry fellow, ignoring tips on how to improve the creature’s general health when things are going well.  Then they have to spend hundreds, perhaps thousands, of dollars a year in professional treatment.  If these households would simply devote some attention to preventive treatment, they could improve the quality of life of their pet and avoid more doctor visits.  Make a checklist of what a pet needs and ways to provide a safer environment when it is well.

4. Look Online for Discount Pet Supplies

Discount pet supplies can be found by way of mail coupons, online website specials, discount online stores and other special promotions.  Remember to figure in shipping and handling costs as well as bulk discounts, because this is where you really find the biggest savings.

Take a more strategic approach to stocking your pet food and supplies.  Research the brand of food you’re buying and what other options are available to you.  This is the best way to find discount pet supplies.

PetSupply Store provides you with easy access to your most needed pet supplies. No matter what type of pet you have, you can find supplies easily through their online store. For more information, visit http://www.PetSupply-Store.com.

Hi, I am looking into getting a Chinchilla because my mom will not allow any pet that is noisy, smelly, messy, or expensive. And apparently Chinchillas are none of those (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong about that) except I haven’t found out about the money…that’s my question: Are Chinchillas expensive to own? Don’t you need a license to buy one? I would expect the license would be very expensive right? Plus you would need an elaborate cage too? I mean since they are exotic pets, you wouldn’t find supplies for them in a normal pet store! I don’t even know where I would ever buy one! Can someone please help me with that? On where to get the license, Chinchilla, supplies, etc. Oh and please tell me how much it would cost overall. (supplies, license, etc) I only have around $320 that I’m aloud to spend. BUT if the Chinchilla costs goes a little over my budget I’m willing to save up! Thank you so much! Details about care would be apreciated too! Thank you I mean it I need the help!

Most families at some point decide to introduce a pet or animal to their family home at some point in their lives. Although cats, dogs, rabbits, gerbils, fish and other small animals are the most common family pet it is becoming less unusual for families to look at bringing home exotic pets.

Exotic pets may seem more exciting and different however unless your are fully prepared and understand enough about the exotic pets you choose bringing one home could end in disaster.

Generally speaking, the more exotic the pet the more education you will need and it will probably require more expensive housing and food. When you are looking for exotic pets do your research before you shop, you may find you purchase an animal on impulse that you know little about and does not fit your family surroundings.

It is extremely important to do plenty of research on exotic pets before you decide what sort you want. You can find plenty of information on the internet simply type in the animal you are look for and read as much as you can to see if this animal suits you. You can also visit your local library and borrow books on exotic pets.

It may be helpful to visit a few pet shops to seek advise about exotic pets, make sure you are aware of all the special requirements they need.

Things To Ask

What sort of housing do they require including the size and shape.

What sort of food do they eat and how often should they be fed

Are they prone to any type of diseases or problems you should look out for

Do they require any special equipment such as a UV light or heat mat

How long is their life expectancy

Do they need any type of vaccinations

Do you need any sort of licence to own this type of animal

If you have children it may be worth finding out how much your exotic pet likes to be interacted with. If you have chosen an animal that does not like to be handled will your family be happy with a pet that can only be looked at and not touched?

If you have other pets already you will need to know if the new addition will upset your existing animals and how they will get along. You may need to set up alternative measures if they need to be kept well away from each other.

Buying exotic pets is not as easy as it seems but if you are fully aware of everything that it needs and have prepared a loving home with the correct facilities there is no reason why you should not enjoy having one.

Hi everyone! Well I have just finished all of my “business” schooling and took many classes in high school for business and I really would like to open up a successful pet store. Well first off I would like to say that I have worked in a “pet supplies Plus” (pet store) since I was 16 and have worked my way up to being manager. I am 22 now and really would like to run my own Pet Store since I have had much experience. Anyways, so I decided I do NOT want to Franchise an established name but have cam up with my own. So…If I am opening my own, that is better then Franchising one, right? I mean, I could build it and design it my own way although it’s probably a lot more costly, right? And how much would it cost to have about a 2,000 square foot store be? I already know where I’m ordering my re-sale products from and am also opening a Grooming Salon with my pet store. In my store I will be selling Birds, Exotics, Reptiles, Rodents..ect.. And no dogs or cats as people buy those from breedrs
Also. Where do I get these animals from? I never really asked about that and so would they be from reptuable breeders that sell them to me for a cheaper price and I knock it up a few? Anyways, how much would I make on this if it is very attractive to people’s eyes and on a street that is popular with traffic? Will my income be very low or high for just being kind of like a CEO for a Pet Store? Thank you and I will be adding additional detail so if you can help me out I would REALLY appreciate it if you could actually e-mail me and I can ask you more questions then I can fit on here because I am very serious about this! So please e-mail me all experts on business out there…THANK YOU SO MUCH! i cant wait to here from you CEO’s! lol j/k but thank you

I don’t want to get money for it, but maybe trade it in for supplies at a local exotic pets store. My parents won’t let me have two pets, and i would truthfully rather have a rat (at least i can play with and hold it). My mom has the rat that she would give to me, so its not like i have to buy one. The only fun i get out of having my gecko is getting to watch him eat bugs lol.

Are the kind of person who would enjoy taking care of an exotic animal for a pet instead of a dog, cat, rabbit or any of the regular variety pets? Caring for an exotic pet is serious business, but it can also be a fun and challenging endeavor.

Exotic pets are animals that are not commonly considered pets by many. They are not your regular, every day pets. Unless your pet dog or cat belongs to a very rare species, it’s not an exotic pet. Exotic pets are also referred to as non-traditional pets because they are not the kind of pets that most pet owners would have. Some of the more popular exotic pets include exotic cats, frogs, hamsters, hedgehogs, lizards, monkeys (illegal in some countries), parrots, snakes, spiders, turkeys and turtles.

Before acquiring an exotic pet, you need to be clear as to why you truly want to own one. Are you just getting an exotic pet so you can be “cool” and show off to friends and family? If you are, it is best to forget getting one. Caring for an exotic pet demands is a big responsible, one you should never take lightly. Because you will be caring for a non-traditional pet, your exotic pet will require special accommodations, attention and food.

However, if you truly want to own an exotic pet not for the cool factor having one but for a real desire to care for one then the next thing you should do is research on the kind of exotic pet you want to have. Also, make sure that the exotic pet you are going to get is legally allowed in the area you are living in.

Below are a few more things you should keep in mind when buying an exotic pet.

* Consider how big the exotic pet you want will grow into as adult. Don’t just go for an exotic pet because you think it’s cute when it’s still a baby. Think about its size when it becomes an adult. Remember that the larger the pet, the bigger the space it will require and the harder it may be to handle.

* Do you want an exotic pet that likes people and frequently handled? Perhaps you want an exotic pet that does not mind if it is not handled regularly.

* What kind of food will your exotic pet need? Exotic pets usually need specialized food. You need to know if you will be able to get food for your exotic food from a regular supplier. Also, consider how food would be prepared as some exotic pets require freshly prepared food every day. Factor this in your decision since you are the one who will be feeding your exotic pet.

* What kind of housing will your exotic pet need? Will a small cage do or will you need to build something to hold your exotic pet?

* Consider the cost of keeping your exotic pet alive. Exotic pets are more expensive to care for than ordinary pets. You will have to find out how much food, housing, supplies and veterinary care your exotic pet will require.

* What are your plans for the long term? Do you see yourself moving to a new place or being away for a long time? How will you take care of your exotic pet during those times when you are away?

* Do you have children living with you? Make sure that the exotic pet will be safe around kids and vice versa.

* If you have other pets in your home, make sure that the exotic pet you get is compatible with them.

* Make sure that there is available veterinary care nearby for your exotic pet.

* There are exotic pets that live a long time and may even outlive you so consider this when choosing an exotic pet.

* Consider an exotic pet’s destructive tendencies. Will you be able to train your exotic pet? How much training will be required to curb your exotic pet’s destructive tendencies?

* Keep in mind that there are animals that carry disease that can be transmitted to humans so take care when choosing an exotic pet.

* Avoid getting an exotic pet that can pose potential danger to your or other people’s life. There are exotic pets that are aggressive and downright dangerous.

George was fascinated with reptiles at a very young age. This all started when the school went on a field trip to the zoo and was immediately followed a book entitled “Creepy Crawly Things” given at the end of the tour.

This fascination became a reality when George’s parents purchased a tarantula at the local pet store. This creature belongs to the arachnid family because of the venomous fangs that are used to kill prey.

The tarantula loves to eat fresh meat. Unlike other spiders that usually eat whatever gets trapped in the web, this one waits in a certain spot and ambushes the prey. The victims are usually insects, other spiders, birds and amphibians.

Since it is quite difficult to catch these creatures, the best place to get them is from an exotic pet supply shop.

The first thing any owner must provide is shelter for the pet. The tarantula should be placed in a glass aquarium with some rocks or old wood to make it feel comfortable in its environment. This will cost an average of $40 and is very easy for anyone to set up.

Some jell should also be purchased to give the spider some liquids together with live insects such as crickets or worms as part of its diet. This doesn’t hurt the wallet that much since the tarantula is only fed once a week.

Tarantulas are nocturnal animals so having a small lamp installed will be just right to give it some warmth in its home. The owner should make sure that it doesn’t exceed 30 degrees, which could be too much for the spider to handle.

Even if many Americans prefer to have dogs, cats or fish as pets, there are many who prefer to have spiders instead. These eight-legged creatures are not noisy compared to other animals, don’t produce any harmful odors from urine or feces and are easy to maintain.

The price for a tarantula on the market ranges from $20 to $50. This will depend on the type, the gender and age when it was purchased. The exotic pet supply store also carries books of how to take care of this kind of spider.

Deciding to own a tarantula or any other exotic pet is a huge responsibility. It will be a good idea to do some research first and know the dos and don’ts in order to have fun with this creature around.
